W przestrzeni kosmicznej jest kulą, na płaszczyźnie jest kołem. Jak ją najlepiej przedstawić na powierzchni płaskiej, ekranie monitora i nie tylko? Kwestia ta jest rozwiązywana już od czasów starożytnych, tak jak wiele innych problemów na kuli ziemskiej. Coraz to lepsze funkcje matematyczne przybliżają nam prawdziwy obraz kuli ziemskiej. Kiedy będziemy mogli ją obejrzeć w przestrzeni trójwymiarowej (3D)? Kiedy będziemy mogli ją obejrzeć ze wszystkich stron jednocześnie bez względu na to czy jest dzień czy noc?

Z różnych źródeł internetowych zebrałem tu przykłady prezentacji kuli ziemskiej. Kolekcja zawiera różne mapy i planigloby, mapy tematyczne i historyczne, siatki kartograficzne w różnych odwzorowaniach, w tym wiernopowierzchniowe i wiernokątne, obrazy satelitarne i globusy, ikony i wizje artystyczne oraz filmy. Przy wyborze poszczególnych przykładów kierowałem się dwoma przesłankami.

• Zebrać przykłady prezentacji kuli ziemskiej dla celów edukacyjnych w nauczaniu nauk o Ziemi, geografii, kartogarfii i jakże aktualnej dziedziny - systemów informacji geograficznej.
• Zebrać przykłady wizji kuli ziemskiej jako niewyczerpane żródło artystycznej pomysłowości ich twórców.

Wszystkim twórcom znanym i nieznanym składam tą drogą podziękowanie za ich wkład w tak wspaniałe przykłady pomysłowości ludzkiej.

Galerię możesz zwiedzać w dwojaki sposób:

1. wybierając z menu odpowiednią planszę, których nazwy skrótowo przybliżają jej treść,
2. naciskając klawisz "START" poniżej menu i wówczas zwiedzisz po kolei cała galerię.

Po obejrzeniu posterów zastanów się na ile twórcom tych prezentacji kuli ziemskiej udało się przedstawić ją w sposób najlepszy?

It is a sphere in the space and a circle on the plane. What is the best way of presenting it on a surface, on a screen and elsewhere? Since the ancient times many people have been trying to solve this problem as well as other problems of life on Earth. Mathematical functions get better and better and they bring us closer to the real image of the Terrestrial Globe. When will we be able to see it in the three-dimensional space (3D)? When will we be able to see it simultaneously from all quarters regardless of the time of the day and night?

Here, I have collected the examples of the Globe`s presentations from various Internet sources. This collection consists of the different maps and planiglobes, thematic and historical maps, cartographic nets in various projections (including equal-area as well as conformal ones), satellite images and artificial globes, icons and artistic visions as well as movies. While selecting particular examples, I was guided by two assumptions.

• First, my aim was to collect examples of the Globe`s presentations for the educational purposes in teaching Earth sciences, geography, cartography, and Geographic Information Systems.
• Second, to collect examples of the Globe`s visions being an inexhaustible source of their creators` artistic ingeniousness.

I would like to thank very much all the authors, known and unknown, for their input in presenting such wonderful examples of the human abilities.
