General Information
The US-Poland Workshop on "Interfacial Phenomena at the Nanoscale: Fluids and Soft Matter," to be held in Poznan, Poland on June 20-24, 2012, is a follow-up to and builds upon three earlier and successful Workshops held in Poznan (2006), Gdansk (2008) and Krakow (2010). The purpose of the Workshop is to encourage closer scientific contacts and long-term research collaboration between researchers in this area between the U.S. and Poland. The Workshop will involve 17 U.S. participants and 15-20 from Poland, with a balance between junior, mid-career and senior researchers, and between experiment and theory, with similar or complementary interests on the two sides. In addition, young researchers in these areas from Poland will attend the meeting, present poster papers, and interact with the more senior participants throughout the meeting.
The Workshop is intended to provide an effective forum or contacts between researchers from the US and Poland who are working in the area of interfacial phenomena at the nanoscale and soft matter. The invited participants have been chosen to achieve a balance between junior, mid-level and senior researchers, and also between theory and experiment. In addition to invited participants, we plan a poster session for younger Polish workers, including graduate students, who will be invited to attend and present at the poster session. In addition, there will be a Panel Discussion at the end of the meeting to discuss the status of the field, future directions, and possible avenues for future US-Poland cooperation. Ample time will be allowed during the Workshop for discussion, both during the sessions, in morning and afternoon coffee breaks, and in social events.
The National Science Foundation of the USA has provided fund for young Polish scientist to visit the US in order to enhance the scientific collaborations between the two countries. This is a unique opportunity for young scientist to visit laboratories of US scientist. In order to achieve this we encourage you to contact scientist from the US during the Workshop in order to arrange the visits and to start or continue collaborations. Those scientist interested in pursuing such visit should apply for the funds by writing a one paragraph on the work that plan to carry out in the US with the agreement of the US scientist. The funds will cover the airfare of the scientist as well as the stay in the host laboratory for a period of two to four weeks.
In order to apply please submit the information by email to Professor Igal Szleifer, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. , with the name of the US scientist the work that is going to be carried out and a two page cv including a list of publications.
