Fourth International Conference on Geomorphology

The 4th IAG International Conference will be held in Bologna, Italy, 28 August - 3 September 1997. There will be pre-conference meetings with field trips, and both pre- and post-conference excursions. Currently, the number of registered delegates is about 800 from 60 countries. About 700 abstracts have been accepted for presentation. On behalf of the IAG, the Conference Organising Committee has the pleasures of inviting you to participate in the scientific and social programmes of the conference.

Award to Young Scientists: the Jan De Ploey Prize

In 1993, the Jan De Ploey Prize was established to further research in the field of process geomorphology. This prize is awarded every two years to a young scientist (under the age of 35 years) who has made a significant contribution to research in the field of geomorphological processes. Previous prize winners were R. Allison in 1993 and Y. Le Bissonnais in 1995. This prize will be awarded for the third time at the Fourth International Association of Geomorphologists Conference in Bologna, Italy, 28 August - 3 September 1997. The recipient will be expected to deliver a memorial lecture at the Laboratory for Experimental Geomorphology at Leuven. The prize will pay the expenses of the visit to Leuven and the residual sum may be used to support attendance at an appropriate international conference.

Nominations should consist of a brief statement and any supporting materials (c.v., list of publications), including at least a copy of one critical paper. Please send your nomination before 31 March 1997 to
