Fourth Interlinguistic Symposium at AMU

The Interlinguistic Studies program (Institute of Linguistics, Faculty of Modern Languages and Literature, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland) is organizing its fourth international interlinguistic symposium to be held September 21-22, 2017 in Poznań. The main subject will be:

The role of international languages from the time of Zamenhof to the modern multicultural world

Description: The year 2017 marks the 100th anniversary of the death of Ludwik Zamenhof, the initiator of the international language Esperanto and a great supporter of intercultural dialogue. In light of his achievements UNESCO selected Zamenhof as one of its eminent personalities of 2017.

The conference will commemorate the life and achievements of Zamenhof whose peaceful attitude promoted intercultural understanding by removing language barriers. The topics of the conference relate to cooperation in the face of linguistic and cultural challenges from the 19th century until now.

The papers will comprise the following subjects:

  • Zamenhof: life and work
  • Internationalism and international languages since the 19th century
  • Language policy in multilingual countries
  • Language challenges in a changing Europe
  • Aspects of Esperanto:
    • Linguistics: the role of the structure of the international language
    • Literature as a carrier of international values and topics
    • Instruction: modern methods
    • The Esperanto movement for language rights and equality
