PREPARING THE TEXT FOR PUBLISHING

The editing team of the biannual academic journal „Porównania” would like to ask the authors to include an abstract of their mainuscript in Polish and in English. The abstract should have up to 100 words together with the key words in Polish and English (not more than 6 key words). The manuscript should also include information about the author (up to 80 words).

The file should be saved as .doc.

For writing the basic text Times New Roman font size 12 should be used. Use a line spacing of 1.5.

A citation that is longer than three lines should be written using font size 10. For a citation inside another citation, a regular quotation mark should be used.

When you mention a name (a person) for the first time, make sure you provide both name and surname (e.g. Adam Mickiewicz);

Use a square bracket [...] to mark an ommitted part of a quotation.

THE REFERENCES

The editing team of the biannual academic journal „Porównania” kindly asks to prepare the manuscript in accordance with the Modern Language Association (MLA Style)  referencing stylesheet. It is based on a two-element citation system: citing sources in the main text and an alphabetic list of cited works which is given at the end of the manuscript. Footnotes are only used for any added content to the main text.

  1. Citing sources in the manuscript:

Citing requires the surname and the page numer provided in brackets:

(Kowalski 23)

If the manuscript contains more than one source from the same author, the date should be given in order to differentiate between the two sources. In this case, a colon should be added before the page number):

(Kowalski 1990: 23)

(Kowalski 1994: 124)

If the source has two or three authors, their surnames should be added after a coma:

(Kowalski, Malinowski 23)

If the source has more than three authors, the following should be employed:

(Kowalski et al. 23)

In case of sources without authorship (e.g. websites), the following information should be included in the manuscript’s main text:

(Title of the document, electronic source)

In case of citing a source after another source, the original source should be provided:

(after: Malinowski 23-32)

  1. The list of references:

The list of cited works is provided on a separate page at the end of the manuscript. The list is given in an alphabetic order of authors’ names or, in case of no author, of the titles. The title is given in italics. Latin expressions such as idem, eadem and their Polish counterparts are not used.
