The manuscript should be double spaced, with
at least 3 cm left margin. It should not exceed 25 typed pages (including
references, figures and tables). The manuscript should be started with a
title page presenting the title of the paper, full forenames and surnames
of author(s) and the full postal address of their work. In the line after
the address introduce words: (Received on ). Please provide a running
title of not more than 60 characters (including spaces). Next the paper
should contain a short abstract limited to 250 words, a list of key words
and the text divided into standard chapters: introduction, materials and
methods, results, discussion and references. Abstract should be
informative not descriptive (specify the most important findings of your
paper). Avoid using words from title as key words. A cover letter by the
corresponding author should accompany the manuscript and should provide a
statement that the material has not been published or submitted for
publication elsewhere. The full Latin name of all species used in the
study (including authorship and year) must be supplied.
References The references
should be cited in the text as follows: (SMITH 1999)
either (SMITH & JONES 1999) or
(BROWN et al. 1999). They should be listed in the
alphabetical order according to the examples (please check the spacing and
punctuation):
SANTOS. A., KELLER R. 1993. Crustacean hyperglycaemic hormone and the
regulation of carbohydrate metabolism: current perspectives. Comp.
Biochem. Physiol. 106A: 405-411.
LING K. H., PAETKAU V., MARCUS F., LARDY H. A. 1966. Phosphofructokinase: skeletal muscle. In:
Methods in Enzymology (COLOWICK S. P., KAPLAN N. O., Eds), vol. 9, pp. 425-425, Academic Press, New
York.
The full Latin name of all species used in
the study (including authorship and year) must be supplied.
Figures and tables All
illustrations should be referred as "Fig." and numbered consecutively,
e.g. Fig. 1, or Figs. 3-5. They must be prepared on separate sheets of
paper (identified on the back with the author's names and figure number).
They should be suitable for double reduction of size in reproduction (it
is specially important when the size of symbols, inscriptions,
descriptions of plots, line thickness, etc. are selected). The captions to
the figures should be compiled separately.
Tables should be as simple as possible and
understandable without reference to the text. All tables with their
captions should also be prepared on separate sheets of paper. The
supplementary descriptions should be added under the table. Use Arabic
numerals to number Tables. Give extra information as a footnote below the
table. Tables should not contain vertical rules, and the main body of the
table should not contain horizontal rules.
Statistical conventions For
significance test, give the name of the test followed by a colon, the test
statistic and its value, the degrees of freedom or sample sized (whichever
is the convention for the test) and the P value. Degrees of freedom may be
presented as a subscript to the test statistic. E.g. ANOVA: F2,91=3.24, P=0.002, or rs
=.-0.43, N = 63, P < 0.001). P values should be quoted as
an exact probability value. Departure from a significance threshold of
0.05 should be stated and justified in the Methods. Nonsignificant
outcomes should be indicated as exact probability values or as
ns.
Standard submission In paper
submission, authors are encouraged to submit a diskette (3.5'') or CD
(ISO9660/Joliet) with the final version of the text. The text should be
written as a file of the available word processor, however, the author
should specify what software was used including their versions (only IBM
compatible PC may be accepted) as well as write the file titles on the
diskette or CD. While preparing text, it should be avoided the
capabilities of the word processor, i.e. do not use any special fonts
(bold, italic, underlined, small fonts, capitals, etc.). Only the genus
and species names and test statistics may be printed in italics. The text
should not be dressed up at the right margin. Particular paragraphs should
be ended with the return bar.
Manuscripts should be submitted in three
copies (it also concerns figures, photos and tables but they may be sent
as photocopies).
Electronic submission First
electronic submission should be send as PDF (Acrobat Reader 4.0 or 5.0)
file. Text, tables, figures captions should be prepared as single PDF file
preferably. If the file is too large (over 5 MB) it should be divided into
smaller portions (e.g. text, tables, fig1, fig2 etc.). Alternatively,
Managing Editor may make available a virtual disc (accessible through WWW)
for up to 25 MB upload.
In electronic submission manuscript should
have line numbers (every 5 line) on left side (including the abstract,
references and figure legends).
Cover letter in electronic submission should
be placed in an e-mail body or as separate PDF attachment.
In final submission (after acceptance) most
wordprocessing software is acceptable but any version of MS Word for the
PC or Macintosh is preferred. For graphics we prefer following formats:
GIF, TIFF, BMP and CDR. However, virtually any other after consulting
Managing Editor.
Editorial process Every
manuscript is independently reviewed by at least two referees selected by
editors before it is accepted for print. Authors can provide names and
addresses of at least three researchers of recognized competence who may
be considered as reviewers. In e-submission authors should be informed
about manuscript acceptance or rejection within three months. In paper
submission, the decision may take up to six months.
The authors will receive proofs. They should
be checked immediately and send back to the editorial office within 48
hours. Corrections to the proofs must be restricted to printer's errors
only. Any others substantial changes in text will be charged to the
authors.
The authors will receive 10 reprints and one
copy of the volume without charge. Further reprint copies may be ordered
in the editorial office when the proofs are returned.
